Dr. Abba Sufi, the Director-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, said a trailer loaded with 24,000 bottles of assorted beer was intercepted in Kano on Saturday.
Sufi told the News Agency of Nigeria that the vehicle carrying the beer was arrested on Murtala Mohammed Way at 1am.
He said the driver was arrested, while the vehicle and the items were moved to the premises of the board, adding that the driver would be arraigned on Monday.
He, however, warned people who are in the habit of bringing alcoholic drinks and other intoxicating items into the state to desist from doing so.
Sufi said the state government would not take it lightly with anyone caught in the illegal act.
He said it was against the Sharia to transport, bring or sell alcohol in the state.
