Airforce Base: Bauchi pays 2nd tranche of compensation to land owners

The Bauchi state government has paid another tranche of compensation‎ to people whose lands were taken for the construction of the Nigeria Airforce Base in Bauchi.
The sum of N95 million was paid as second instalment to the beneficiaries, Daily Trust learnt.‎
The same amount was earlier paid to some of the land owners in the first phase of compensation payment.
Chairman of the compensation committee and state Accountant General Alhaji Abubakar Gabi told the beneficiaries at a ceremony marking the cheque disbursement on Saturday that the payment of a balance of N180 million would be done by March 2016.

He said the Governor, Muhammad Abubakar had approved over N360 million as compensation for the construction of the Airforce Base in the state capital.
Also speaking, Emir of Bauchi Alhaji Rilwanu Suleman Adamu, commended the state governor for fulfilling his pledge to the beneficiaries.
The Emir, who was represented by the district head of Miri, Alhaji Adamu Musa, called on the recipients of the compensation to use the money judiciously.
In his remarks, Senior Special Assistant to the state Governor on Media, Comrade Sabo Muhammad, called on the construction firms handling the project to consider the unemployed youths of the surrounding communities in their project execution.
