Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State yesterday disclosed plans to ban street begging.
Speaking at the distribution of allowances and other forms of assistance to the needy under the State Zakkat and Endowment Committee, Tambuwal said street begging denigrates the individual and runs against the tenets of Islam.
He said the state government would meet with the various Islamic clerics
to find ways of stopping street begging, and assured of the state
government’s commitment to improving the lives of the people despite

In a remark, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, lauded the state government for sustaining the funding of the committee which was started by the immediate past administration.
Chairman of the committee, Alhaji Lawal Maidoki,disclosed that the Zakkat and Endowment disbursed N76.5million monthly gestures in aid of the needy.
