FG to boost dry season farming in Niger


The Federal Government through the Niger State Fadama Coordination office would boost dry seasoning farming in the state through youths and women, the National Coordinator of Fadama, Chief Tayo  Adewumi has disclosed.
Speaking during the launching of dry season farming in Wushishi, the national coordinator said he was happy that the state coordinating office was evolving a process leading to generational shift from aging to young farmers by the involvement of young women and men in agriculture.
Chief Adewumi, who expressed happiness with the leading role of the state in the federal government/World Bank assisted Fadama III Additional Financing programme aimed at supporting one the key elements of agricultural transformation agenda across the country, said the state would be further encouraged through all-season farming.

Consequently, he said, the state coordinating office would be supported to achieve the target of cultivation of about 3,000 hectares during this dry season. The national coordinator who emphasized that agriculture was the leeway to driving development, urged Nigerian youths to focus on Agric Dollar, adding that the era of oil dollar was fast fading.
The state Coordinator of Fadama, Engineer Aliyu Usman Kutigi said N6.6 million worth of farm implements would be distributed to farmers in the state for the 2016/1017 dry season farming.
He said the state had made a modest achievement in the implementation of Fadama III AF as N1.161 was disbursed to implement various agricultural activities across the state.
 Commissioner for Agric and Rural Development, Kabiru Abbas Musa said as one of the focal points of the Governor Abubakar Sani Bello-led administration, the state government was providing the much needed support to the agricultural sector in form of extension services, equipment, fulfillment of its counterpart obligations to donor agencies, amongst other interventions.
