Kano can generate N12bn revenue monthly – Sanusi
Kano State can generate N12bn revenue monthly if each of its estimated 12 million people could be charged a monthly flat rate of N1000, Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has said.
Sanusi said this during the launch of Presumptive Taxation (PT) for commercial vehicle operators in the state at the Government House Kano, according to a statement issued by the Director General of Media and Communication, Government House, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, yesterday.
The emir said collecting a token amount from many people as revenue would boost the coffers of the government.
He said if Kano could generate as much as N12bn monthly, it would not rely on the monthly federal allocation, adding that the state must look for sustainable options of earning more money.
In his remarks, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje said the presumptive tax was mainly for commercial transporters such as buses, trucks, mini trucks, assorted tankers, luxury buses, tippers, trailer, taxis and tricycles.
Earlier, the Chairman of the state Internal Revenue Service, Alhaji Sani Abdulkadir Dembo, said the agency decided to carry out Presumptive Income Tax Assessment of transport related businesses as one of the strategies for creating a tax system that would encourage compliance with the provisions of the state tax laws.
