Making Jigawa industrial Hub: Gov. Abubakar laid foundation for the construction of White Refined Sugar Processing factory



In an effort to make Jigawa State an industrial Hub, Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar has today laid a foundation for the construction of White Refined Sugar Processing factory for Great Northen Agribusiness in Garin Chiroma of Gagarawa Local Government Area.
Speaking at the laying foundation ceremony, Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar said ‎the project is not just one factory but an industrial complex of four independent units that will produce Sugar, food seasoning, Organic fertiliser and high density fibre board and the generation of 17 Megawatts of electricity.
He explained that is this the largest single industrial entity in Jigawa state and on completion, full output will be over one hundred thousand tons of Sugar annually.
Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar noted that of the 12,000 hectares for which compensation has been paid by the investor, 6,000 hectares will be the core Sugar Estate cultivated entirely by the factory, while the other 6,000 is partitioned and allocated to the same farmers affected by the acquisition under a long-term outgrower arrangement to produce supplementary cane on a guaranteed buy back scheme.
He commended the Emir of Gumel Alhaji Ahmad Muhammad Sani III for his fatherly advise and those involved ‎especially Invest Jigawa, DFID, Gems3 and Enable.
The governor thanked ‎the Chairman of the Lee Group of Companies for his continued effort to commit to the investment despite the tight economic environment and significant challenges and misrepresentation by elements with ulterior motives.
In his speech the Chairman of Lee Group of Companies Mr. Sheau Fung Lee said the factory will produce 120, 000 metric tons of sugar adding that 5, 000 workers will get direct employment for the plantation while 800 will work in the main stream of the factory.
He pointed out that‎ Clinic Vocational School and Fire Station as well as other utility facilities will be provided.
Also speaking, the Minister of Agriculture Mr. Audu Ogbeh said Nigeria will continue to cherish the partnership between Nigeria and China.
Also contributing, the Governor of central Bank Mr. Godwin Emefiele commended Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar for providing enabling environment to investors to come and invest.
The Emir of Gumel Alhaji Ahmad Muhammad Sani commended Mr. Lee for establishing the company, adding that it will create jobs among the indigenes of the area.
Emir Ahmad Sani assured his support and that of his emirate at all level.
