CSO wants sacked Kaduna teachers to refund salaries

A civil society organization, ‘Corruption, Injustice, Abuse of Office’ (CIA-Nigeria) said the 20,000 teachers sacked by the Kaduna State Government for failing competency tests should refund all salaries they received while in service.
The Director General of CIA-Nigeria, Professor Amos Awodiya said the sacked teachers were cheats, saying in other civilized societies they would have been arrested.

Awodiya who spoke at a press conference at the weekend in Abuja, to mark this year’s International Anti-corruption Day, said “They have devastated the lives of the children they taught”, noting that the students should be made to come back to school to be retained.
He condemned the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), for its support of the sacked teachers saying “Cheating is a crime of corruption; we will resist any negative action towards the good intention of the Kaduna state governor.”
Awodiya said a responsible congress should know that the laid-off teachers broke the rules in an attempt to gain an unfair advantage.
The Kaduna state government recently sacked the teachers after they were alleged to have failed competency test equivalent for pupils of primary four.
