‘Husband killer’ Maryam Sanda Denied Bail Again

An FCT High Court in Jabi has refused and dismissed a bail application made on behalf of Maryam Sanda and ordered that she be returned back to prisons for allegedly killing her husband, Bilyamin Bello.
The court however granted bail to Maryam's mother, Maimuna Aliyu, her brother, Aliyu Sanda and one Sadiya Aminu who were accused of assisting Maryam to clean the blood of Bilyamin from the crime scene with the intention of screening Maryam from legal punishment of her action.

Justice Yusuf Halilu held that the medical report submitted with Maryam's bail application, notwithstanding, there was nothing placed before the court to suggest that the ailment she is said to be suffering from was such that cannot be taken care of in prisons custody.
“I have seen from where I am that the 1st defendant (Maryam) has not exhibited any symptom of a life-threatening ailment. She appears very strong while standing in the dock,” he said.
Earlier upon their arraignment, they all pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge brought against them by the Police.
Subsequently, their counsel, Chief Joseph Daudu (SAN), a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) applied for bail for the four defendants.
Maryam is accused of killing her husband Bilyamin, a son to former Chairman of People's Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Halliru Bello Muhammad.
