Opeyemi Bamidele, a Nigerian lawyer and activist has
reacted to the involvement of President Muhammadu Buhari in the $2
billion arms scandal.
Speaking in Ado Ekiti yesterday, December 16, Bamidele said Buhari cannot be blackmailed by naming him as one of the beneficiaries of the arms deal scam, Vanguard reports.
Buhari had been accused of receiving two SUVs and $300,000 from the office of the National Security Officer, Sambo Dasuki.
Bamidele noted that the two cars were donated by the administration of former president, Goodluck Jonathan to President Buhari after his motorcade was attacked by Boko Haram insurgents in Kaduna and should therefore not be used to rubbish the anti-corruption war and the prosecution of those that allegedly looted the nation.
He explained that listing the president as one of the beneficiaries will not stop the probe of those involved in the arms deal scandal, adding that Buhari was committed to fighting corruption in the country.
Criticising the PDP, Bamidele said their attempt to stop the prosecution of those involved in the $2.1 billion arms deal has exposed the depth of their corruption.
He added that it was a stunt to tarnish the ongoing anti-corruption war.
The activist said he expected the PDP and the culprits to cover their heads in shame and be sober rather than trying to smear the image of President Buhari who was bent on restoring Nigeria.
He however, commended Buhari for challenging the claims that he received money from Dasuki.
Reacting to reports that Buhari got money from the former NSA, Femi Adesina, the special adviser to the president on media, said the president only got SUVs from the previous administration after an attack on him in Kaduna, which according to him was mandated by the Nigerian law for every former head of state. He denied receiving any money from Dasuki.
