Henceforth, salaries for local government and Local Education Authorities (LEA) staffs in Katsina State would not be paid through banks, secretary to the state government, Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa has said.Addressing the press yesterday, Inuwa said the state had also suspended salary differentials “until when we certified who isgenuinely qualified”.The state is currently embarking on the screening of local government and LEA staffs across the state as a result of whichpayment of salaries are being delayed. But Inuwa said the screening was to uncovered ghost workers and ensure that nobody get paid for not working stressing that “in one local government alone, we uncovered about 143 ghost workers”.He said the state would adopt a unit based salary system through which head of units would be responsible for presenting names of staffs to be paid.“The list of those to be paid will emanate from the Unit heads and we will make sure all those who certified the vouchers are held responsible”.Inuwa who lamented that the state was having difficulties paying local governmentstaff salaries due to declining reciepts from federation account said the state expects to make some savings through themeasures being taken.
