Governor
Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar has been accused of allegedly denying the
Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara access to traditional
rulers in the state.
An
aide to the Speaker, Iliyasu Zwall made the accusation while speaking
to Journalists in Bauchi Tuesday, saying that the state government
allegedly told the traditional rulers to travel out so that they will
not receive the Speaker during his recent visit to the state.
"It
was reliably gathered that the state government had ordered that
speaker Dogara Yakubu should not be allowed to visit any palace or be
received by any of the traditional rulers across the state for reason
best known to them"
"It
was in the agenda that if the speaker come to the state for the
flagging off of Federal projects in his constituency Bogoro, Dass,
Tafawa Balewa on Saturday, he will visit some palace, which includes,
Emir of Bauchi Palace, Ningi and that of Misau but from what we
understand is that the state government had warned the traditional
rulers not to receive the speaker in their palace,"he said.
Zwall
explained that Dogara's supporters were not happy with the way he was
treated by the Bauchi State government as such he was forced to shelve
the idea of visiting the traditional rulers in their Palaces.
"How
can you deny citizens access to their paramount rulers who are not
politicians? They are our respected royal fathers that we always pay
homage to their palace as part of respect when ever we visit home," he
added.
Responding
to the allegations, the Bauchi State Commissioner of Information,
Alhaji Abdullahi Mohammed Edrees said that he was not aware of such
allegations and that nobody stopped any body from visiting any
traditional ruler's palace in the state.
'As
a commissioner of information, I am not aware that somebody is blocked
from accessing traditional rulers palace. It is a rumours and unfounded
lies to tarnished the image of the state government,"he said.
It
could be recalled that the Speaker was recently in Bauchi to flag off
roads and other projects across his constituency in Bauchi.
