President
Muhammadu Buhari was among sympathisers that
attended the funeral prayer of the eleventh Emir of Katagum, Alhaji Muhammad
Kabir Umar, yesterday .
The
funeral prayer which was led by the Chief Imam of Azare, Malam Ayuba Muhammad,
was also attended by Governor Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar and his Borno, Yobe
and Jigawa counterparts as well as members of the National Assembly, ministers
and other top government functionaries from across the country.
Condoling
the family of the deceased and the entire people of the state, Governor Abubakar described
the death of the deceased as a great loss not only to the state but the nation
at large.
He said
the late emir contributed positively towards the development of Katagum, Bauchi
State and the nation.
He
prayed Allah to grant his soul eternal rest and his family and the people of
the state the courage to bear the loss.
The
late Emir of Katagum died Saturday at the age of 89 and he is survived by four
wives and 49 children. Among his children are Alhaji Baba Umar Faruq, a retired
federal permanent secretary who is also the district Head of Shira.
Late
Umar has since been buried in the ancient town of Katagum, headquarters of Zaki
Local Government Area.
