The Fiscal Responsibility
Commission(FRC) has commended the foresight of the management of the Abubakar
Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital(ATBUTH), Baluchi, for prioritising
the second phase of the trauma centre to accommodate more casualties and other
patients.
The North- East team leader
of the commission, Alhaji Mohammed Zailani, stated this on Tuesday in an interview
with the News Agency of Nigeria( NAN) after inspecting the ongoing projects at
ATBUTH in Bauchi.
He said that the centre would
in no doubt accommodate many patients, adding that the facility had been
over-stretched in the recent past.
“I commend the management of
the hospital for giving priority to the phase two of the trauma centre, which
in no doubt will accommodate patients, especially that the state is relatively
peaceful and many patients visit the facility from the north -eastern
states,”he said.
He also applauded the
initiatives of the management toward expanding the psychiatric wards which he
said was too small to accommodate both staff and patients before.
The Chairman, Medical
Advisory Committee(CMAC), Dr Sa’idu Kadas, told NAN in an interview that there
was need for expansion of the psychiatric ward.
Kadas said that the facility
recently witnessed an increase in psychiatric cases either on the basis of drug
abuse or that of family history.
Earlier, the representative
of Aswad Investment, the contractor handling the project, Mr Yusuf Umar, said
that the phase two trauma centre comprised of an ultra modern hydro- therapy
area, physiotherapy gymnasium, female and male wards and side rooms.
He listed other facilities
there to include : consulting rooms, rest and changing rooms, nurses stations
and wheel passage to ease movement of patients from phase one of the complex to
the second trauma centre.
NAN reports that the FRC team
was in the state to inspect the projects funded by the Federal Government in
2015/2016.
