The Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State yesterday made a Save-Our-Soul (S.O.S)
call to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to rejoin the political grouping
for its rebirth.
This is just as his posters flooded
PDP’s headquarters and other structures and locations in the state capital, where
party supporters gathered to make the S.O.S call.
The call was made through the PDP
Concerned Elders Consultative Forum, and contained in a press statement, signed
by its chairman, Hussaini Dambo.
According to
the statement, Atiku had made “indelible contributions to the foundation and
development of the PDP,” and that his comeback would help in the “current
struggle to wriggle back mainstream political power” in the country.
It said the “history of defences to
the struggle to sustain democracy” in the country cannot be written without
mention of Atiku’s contributions, as he was in the frontline against those that
were out to truncate sustainable democracy in the body politick.
It expressed confidence that
Nigerians would want to continue to receive the “benefits from his versatile
political experiences, his political humility amidst persistence,” and “his
industrial prowess beneficial to millions.”
The statement added: “We the members
of this forum, together with our delegates and millions of supporters wish to
present this S.O.S call to Atiku Abubakar to return to the PDP without further
ado.
“We pray that he heeds to our call and we seek
the credible indulgence of the PDP to receive him with open arms in order to
ensure a successful rebirth of the party.”
