Maternal And Newborn Child Health Week Flagged Off In Rukubolo, Yauri Alongside Distribution Of Hospital Equipment



Wife of Kebbi State governor Her Excellency Dr Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu was in Yauri and Ngaski LGAs of Kebbi State on Monday 27th of November 2017. She was there to perform the ceremonial flag off of the biannual MNCH-N week. She also formally handed over hospital equipment which had earlier been commissioned by His Excellency Governor Atiku Bagudu to Rukubolo primary health care center and Wara General Hospital, Ngaski.

As customary the first stop of the entourage was at the palace of the Emir or Yauri Dr Mohammed Zayyanu Abdullahi to intimate him of their mission and seek his blessings and support on both issues. She presented the Emir,a well known advocate of the girl child, with a plaque of recognition.
Over 1000 women and children turned up at the Rukubolo PHC to receive free interventions such as such as vitamin A, deworming, folate for pregnant women, RUTF, vaccinations and hand held record. A new handheld record has just been launched and fully sponsored by the SOML program in Kebbi State. Stakeholders present were the Kebbi State Commisioner and PS Ministry of Health Alhaji Usman Kambaza and Haj Halima B Dikko, representatives of Unicef, WHO, Saving one million lives, National Primary Health Care Development Agency, the Chairman Yauri LGA Alhaji Musa Mohammed Stone, traditional rulers, religious leaders, wives of chairmen association, women groups, etc.
The flag off event was a hand washing demonstration by the wife of the governor and the village head of Rukubolo. After which all stakeholders took turns to perform a component of the MNCH-N.
Also in the Yauri PHC and later that night in Wara General Hospital, Ngaski, equipment distributed to the zone was formally handed over to hospital staff. The equipment include beds, wheelchairs, surgical instruments, screens, ward furniture etc. The items which are to be distributed across 4 emirates of the state.
In Ngaski LG, Dr Zainab Bagudu was conferred with the traditional title of ‘Jurman Mata’ of Maginga by the Emir. Thanking him on her behalf, the chairman Ngaski LG Alhaji Garba Wara said she was indeed a worthy example of a women leader.
She used the opportunity to interact with women rice farmers, girls at the Government secondary school Yauri, orphans and huffaz, and finally a stop for dinner at the home of former governor of Kebbi Alh Abubakar Musa the Garkuan Yauri who personally received Her Excellency.
The renewed advocacy effort by spouses of elected government officials follows the launch by HE Aisha Buhari of the Governors' Wives Advocacy Coalition (GWAC), a forum to mobilize wives to use their positions, platforms and influence to give voice to issues of women and children in their states
