APC Wins Borno Senatorial By-election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the Saturday Borno Central Senatorial by-election as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

APC candidate, Baba Kaka Bashir Garbai polled 75 per cent of the total votes cast in a landslide victory to defeat his closest rival of the PDP, Engineer Kaka Bolori who polled about 20 per cent of the total votes cast.

The returning officer for the election, Professor Muhammmed Fannami, declared APC candidate winner having scored the majority of votes cast.

According to INEC, APC polled 120,639 votes; PDP 32,346 votes; Kowa Party got 1,042; APGA got 334; PPA 136; PPN 79 and SDP polled 660 votes.

Candidate of the PDP, Kaka Bolori is, however, rejecting the declared result, as he alleged massive rigging by the ruling APC.

But APC Garbai said his victory was a manifestation of the people’s trust in him and his party.

“The people of Borno Central have spoken that I am their Senator. It is a clear testimony of the fact that they have confidence in my ability to represent them. They have also appreciated the efforts of the governor of Borno state who has steered the affairs of this state and touched lives of our people positively. I thank them for the support and and the trust they have for our party, the APC,” he added.
