Nigerian Customs Unveils New Leadership

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (Rtd), monday approved the appointment of six acting Deputy Comptrollers-General of Customs in an on-going re-organisation in the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).

Also appointed in acting capacity were eight comptrollers to occupy the positions of Assistant Comptrollers-General while seven other officers were redeployed.

The ACGs who would be occupying the positions vacated by the former DCGs include, ACG Idris Suleiman (Finance Administration and Technical Service), ACG Iya Umar (Tariff and Trade), ACG Dan Ugo (Enforcement Investigation and Inspection), ACG Grace Adeyemo (Excise, FTZ & Industrial Incentive), ACG Austin Warikoru (Human Resource Development) and ACG Paul Ukaigwe (Strategic Research and Policy).

The Comptrollers who would be occupying the position of ACGs in acting capacity are, Comptroller Umar Sanusi mni (ACG Headquarters), Comptroller Funsho Adegoke (ACG ICT), Comptroller Mohammed Abbas mni (ACG Board), Comptroller Olatunji Aremu mni (Command & Staff College), Comptroller Charles Edike (Zonal Coordinator Zone ‘A’), Comptroller Abubakar Dangaladima (Zonal Coordinator Zone ‘B’), Comptroller Azarema Abdulkadir (Zonal Coordinator Zone ‘C’) and Comptroller Chidi Augustine (Zonal Coordinator Zone ‘D’).

Also seven other officers were equally redeployed in the new exercise.

These include, ACG Adesina Odunmbaku (Finance and Technical Service), ACG Robert Alu (Tariff and Trade), ACG Ade Dosumu (Enforcement and Drugs), ACG Monday Abueh mni (Excise & Industrial Incentive), ACG Ahmed Mohammed mni (Human Resource Management), ACG Patience Iferi (Strategic Research and Policy) and Comptroller Aminu Abba (Technical Services).

A statement signed by Customs spokesman, Mr. Wale Adeniyi, further noted that the changes take immediate effect.

The new customs boss also urged the newly appointed officers to redouble efforts to justify their new responsibilities.

It was however gathered that heads would still roll as NCS boss compiles more names of officers to be shown the exit door this month.
Though the exact number of the officers and their identities were not disclosed, those said to be on the list are those who have pending cases of fraud, corruption and indiscipline in their confidential files.

Impeccable sources at NCS Headquarters, Abuja told THISDAY monday that the affected officers are in two categories. While the first category are those who will compelled to resign on health or age ground, the second category comprises those who have pending cases of bribery and corruption on their necks.
