5 things to know about Buhari’s new adviser, Maryam Uwais



Mrs. Maryam Uwais
President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed wife of former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Muhammadu Uwais as his Special Adviser for Social Protection Plan.

Mrs. Uwais is an Abuja-based lawyer and activist. Below are five things about the new S.A.



·         Mrs Uwais is a legal practitioner and human rights activist with over 20 years cognate law practice experience

·         She founded the Isa Wali Empowerment Initiative in December 2009, which targets the conditions of women and children in education, healthcare and empowerment

·         She graduated with an LL.B from the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, in 1980 and was called to the bar in 1981, after attending the Nigerian Law School, Lagos.

·         She is a 2014 Laureate of the John P. McNulty Prize. Mrs. Uwais is a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network and Fellow of the second class of the Nigeria Leadership Initiative.

·         She is to coordinate the present administration’s social protection schemes, including a N60billion micro-credit scheme for artisans and market women.
