Army repels Boko Haram attack in Buratai


Nigerian troops on Wednesday repelled an evening attack on Buratai town, killing some of the insurgents.

A source told Daily Trust that the terrotists came in six vans; three Hilux and three pick-up vans.

The militants launched the attack at about 6pm but the soldiers on guard returned fire.


Buratai town is the hometown of the Chief of Army Staff Lt. General Tukur Buratai.
The ensuing gun battle lasted for two hours, Daily Trust correspondent reports.

It is about 39 kilometers from Biu, which is the biggest town in Borno south.

At least three of the insurgents were killed and many of them escaped with bullet wounds.

“Many of the insurgents were killed. We saw them taking their dead members and injured into their vans. But at the end of the day, they were unable to take the bodies of three of their members who were killed,” a source said. There was no casualty on the side of the military.

One of the pick-ups used by the terrorist was destroyed by the military and two AK 47 rifles were recovered from flee militants,
