KADUNA State government has announced the immediate suspension of a traditional ruler over alleged involvement in drug-related offence.
Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on January 20, 2016 allegedly arrested Alhaji Ibrahim Danladi with 1.5kg of marijuana.
Danladi, who is the village head of Goma in Gimi district of Sanga local council of the state, reportedly admitted ownership of the illegal drug. NDLEA officials said he would be charged as soon as investigations are concluded.
In a statement yesterday by the Special Assistant to Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Samuel Aruwan, “the NDLEA has subsequently notified the Kaduna State Security Council on the arrest of the traditional ruler.”
He said that, “while deliberating on the matter, the Council recommended his suspension from office pending the conclusion of investigations and possible trial,” adding that, “the government has accepted the recommendation.”
Meanwhile, an inter-faith group, the Global Peace Foundation in Kaduna, yesterday began the training of traditional, religious as well as youth leaders in the three senatorial zones on peace building and conflict prevention among people of the state.
With the theme, “One family under God campaign,” the Northern
Coordinator of the group, Rev. John Hayab, said the aim was to promote and sustain harmony among the various faiths, ethnic and tribal groups.
The coordinator, while addressing participants at the three-day training of trainers capacity building workshop in Kaduna, stated that all people regardless of race, religion, ethnicity and nationality are members of “One family under God,” hence the need to promote what would sustain enduring peace in the state.
Hayab, a former secretary of Kaduna chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) added that the “One family under God” campaign ideas were pursued by “bringing together diverse people to address common needs and challenges by demonstrating our shared humanity and improving livelihoods.”
Hayap added that the group had between June and August 2014 held three inter-faith youth leaders retreats with 60 representatives from each of the three senatorial zones in the state in attendance.
