Construction
work at the Yobe International Cargo Airport has commenced after the signing of
the contract between the state Government and the contractors JM &AS
Enterprise in September.

the site of the airport located in Kala Lawan village about 20km North of
Damaturu, the State capital saw heavy earth moving construction
caterpillar machines opening up the access road to the terminal and
clearing entire airport site .
Over fifty heavy duty truck

equipment on the site.
The
Project Engr. Babangida Mohammed, said they are working hard to meet the
eighteen months target to deliver the project to the state government on
schedule.
According to him, clearing
will for the construction of access road into the airport has been completed
while the entire site clearing will commence within the week, while the
clearing of the runway construction and the terminal building will soon
commence.
While speaking on the
relationship between the community and the contractor, Engr. Babangida
described it as cordial and encouraging, adding that, “some of the villagers we
gathered even donated their farmlands for the project. They have been very
cooperative and we don’t have problem with them at all,”
The Nation recalls that Yobe
