Dozens of youths yesterday stormed Tahir Guest Palace to protest
alleged secret interview conducted by the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, for
job placement.
The said
exercise was conducted by the NPA Human Resource Manager, Bukar Yahaya, for
selected applicants.
It was gathered
that those invited converged at AbdulAzeez Yari Conference hall of Tahir Guest
Palace.
The protesters
led by Lukman Bashir, queried why he and others were not invited.
He alleged that
the selected applicants were handpicked because they had connection to
influential individuals in the society.
His words: “We
got information of secret recruitment by NPA in Kano after a similar exercise
in the North-East, and we stormed this place to ascertain from the Human
Resource Manager why pharmacists are left out.”
Bashir appealed
to the government to wade into the matter and make it open to all
professionals, irrespective of background.
“I want to call
on President Muhammadu Buhari to halt this glaring injustice against
less-privileged Nigerians by making it open to qualify candidates”, he said.
It was also
learned that the Kano secret recruitment was sequel to a similar exercise in
the North-East last September.
However, the HR
Manager denied comment.
“I’m a civil
servant, I don’t have the authority to speak to the press”, Vanguard quoted
Yahaya as saying.
