Around five thousand men from Bama in Borno State will secure the town against attacks by Boko Haram insurgents,Saturday PUNCH has learnt.The people said that they had also contributed money to support the state government’s effort in reconstructing the town.Bama, the second largest town in Borno, wasthe worst hit by the Boko Haram insurgency at the height of the terrorist group’s attack in the country as majority of the structures in the town were destroyed. Addressing newsmen in the community, the indigenes under the auspices of the Bama Elders Forum led by Mr. Al-Amin Kamsalem, said they (the indigence) were in support of the ongoing reconstruction plan of the area by the state government and were willing to do everything to ensure they got their town back.
Kamsalem, a former commissioner in the state and erstwhile chairman of Bama Local Government Area, said, “All the indigenes of Bama and professionals from the town, especially in the building and construction industry, are going to render free services towards the rebuilding of Bama.“We are going to contribute financially, morally and spiritually towards the reconstruction of Bama and the continued peace of the town. We are completely behind the governor. “Bama elders have equally mobilised our people to secure the town. We have 5,000 men standing by to guard against any form of aggression on Bama. These are local hunters and Civilian JTF. ”He expressed the willingness of the people of the town to go back to their homes once the ongoing reconstruction exercise was completed.
