Environmental Expert Engage Almajiri In ‎’Cash For Trash’ Project In Kaduna

As part of efforts to take away the almajiri off the street begging for alms, an environmental expert who specialises in waste management ZL Global Alliance (Nigeria) limited yesterday hosted them to a sensitisation programme in its Cash for trash project.The cash for trash project whose pilot program kick off today is part of the company’s collaborative efforts with Kaduna State government towards making Kaduna clean, green, healthy and environmental friendly. Earlier at the formal unveiling of the project, ‎the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of ZL Global Alliance Nigeria, Mrs. Abiola Bashorun said the ‘waste to cash’ initiative is meant to encourage the people to turn in their waste in exchange for cash, emphasising, ”Under the scheme, we shall be paying N1.00 per kilogramme of waste. We however expect a minimum of 10 to 25kg per lot.Meanwhile, at the sensitization program for the almajiri shortly after a road show, one of the Executive Directors of ZL GlobalAlliance, Mr Olamire Mene reiterated the commitment of the company to get the almajiri off the street and better their lives through turning in trash for cash. “As a way of further encouraging the almajiri in the waste collection process for cash, any one with the most collected trash aside the money to be paid such person will win a motorcycle while whoever comes second and third will win additional cash prize. ”Some of the almajiri who spoke to our correspondent express happiness with theopportunity being afforded them to make money instead of begging.‎On his part, the state Commissioner of Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Shehu Balarabe gave the assurances of the state government to the project aimed at making Kaduna clean, green and healthy. “We will support you and ensure that you succeed in the discharge of your duties, the state government is happy with your efforts towards reducing it’s unemployment status, help her citizens to make money.”
