Shettima to NASS Member: "Abuja is not your home, come and give support to needs of your people or face their wrath"

Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima has warned members representing Borno at the National Assembly to stop absconding from the state.

The Governor made the call Monday when he hosted some members of the National Assembly, Borno state Executive Council, Borno State House of Assembly, Security formation in the state, top government officials, politicians and journalists to a Sallah feast immediately he returned from Konduga where he performed his Eid prayer.

He said:
"Our performance of Eid prayers in Kondugu was significant not only for the symbolism of our presence there but to show to the world that as faithful as the process be, the enthronement of peace has commenced in earnest in Borno. Not only enthronement of peace but resettlement of our IDPs. We have not compel anyone to return to Konduga, Mafa or Dikwa. Peace when it manifest itself there is no need for any grandstanding or propaganda on enthronement it, it manifest itself, it evolves and once the people are convinced that full peace has been re-established in their community there is no compulsion for them to go back to their homes to carry on their lives with dignity.
"Two of our Senators are here and one is in Saudi Arabia performing the Hajj. We urge all our political leaders to come home for festivities like this. We have two Sallah in a year and a Christmas. I see no reason why our people, our leaders and our elected representatives are doing Sallah in Abuja. It is not there home. The of reckoning is not far off.
"If you are truly a politician you should come and be with your people through thick and thin. You should always be with your people in good times or bad times. I will not shield anybody on the day of reckoning; we have shielded people before but in 2019 only the fit can survive.
"If any elected representative elect to be more favorably dispose to his pocket than to the interest of his people, then whatever faith that befalls him is not my making. We are willing support everybody who stood by his people and best person we can to support is that person. By alienating yourself from the people, by running away from the people, by not showing empathy and support to them, don't expect me to secure the ticket for you because it is absolutely impossible and there are a lot people with toll ambition hanging in every neighborhood everywhere.
"Honestly, I will want to make it emphatically clear that we will not stop any person from pursuing his or her ambition. To those in Abuja, let them hear and let them come and identify with their people fully.  The sadist element of it all is that our people's expectations are very modest. Our people are desperately in need and are suffering. What they want is to assist them in their times of need. There is nobody in Federal Legislative Houses who those not earn monthly", Shettima said.
He also commended the people of the state for the resilience over the couple of years and also commended security agencies in the state for a job well done.
"I want to commend the good people of Borno for their resilience our the years in spite of the challenges that faced us for pass six to seven years.  I want to also commend the Nigerian Army, the Police, the DSS, the the Road Safety and Civil Defence Corps and other security agencies for the gallantry they have displayed, for all the sacrifices they made and continuously make and also for the successes recorded so far", Shettima further state
