Kebbi to construct 2000 houses to ease accommodation problem



Kebbi State government is to construct 2000 houses across the state in order to ease accommodation problem being faced by people in the state.
The state commissioner of Lands and Housing, Alhaji Abubakar Ladan, disclosed this in an interview in Birnin Kebbi yesterday.
He said that his office has received over 27,000 applications for allocation of land from individuals and some organisations in the state.
“The number of applications we have for individuals looking for plots to build houses, as at now , we have about 27, 000 applications from individuals and organizations looking for plots . This indicates that the deficit is in thousands because there are some people who did not even apply.”

Ladan further stated that the present administration inherited a contract of N2.5 billion for the construction of 400 houses which has not been executed by the immediate past administration of Dakingari but discussion was still on with the contractor on how to go about it in view of the present economic situation.
According to him, the state government has started discussion with Federal Mortgage Bank to get the bank involved in construction of houses, and for private developers to construct houses and allocate them to individuals. He also harped on allocation of plots of land by state government for individuals to build their own houses.
He opined that the Federal Government has approached the state to allocate 10 hectares of land to construct houses in the state capital and another 5 hectares land in each of the 3 senatorial districts of Argungu, Zuru and Yuri.
