Respect ban on public processions, Ganduje tells religious groups

Kano State governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has warned religious groups against engaging in public processions, saying government would deal with any religious sect that is found wanting.
A statement by the state’s Commissioner of Information, Mallam Muhammad Garba, said government was concerned about the recent clash between members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (Shi’ite) and some groups in the state.
He said the clash could have been avoided had the Shi’ite group respected an order by the police command banning it from engaging in any public procession.
“Government will decisively deal with any person, group, or organization that violates this ban which was made as part of efforts to protect lives and properties in the state. Members of the Shi’ite group and the general public are therefore advised to be law abiding and live in peace with one another,” the statement said.
