N550m campaign fund: EFCC quizzes Jigawa PDP chairman, gov candidate

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) grilled former  Jigawa state gubernatorial candidate under Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last general election, Aminu Ibrahim Ringim alongside two others over N550 million missing campaign fund, Daily Trust gathered yesterday.
The Anti-graft agency quizzed Ringim, the state PDP Chairman, Salisu Mahmuda and the secretary of the PDP governorship campaign team, Rabiu Taura on Tuesday in Kano, and the trio were said to be undergoing interrogation on the amount each received and how it was spent.
Sources close to the EFCC told our reporter that the invitation was on issue related to N550 million allocated to Jigawa state as part of campaign fund, and that a former minister collected the money for disbursement to all PDP candidates.
When contacted on phone, Ringim did not give a direct response. He said, “Why only calling me on issue like this, why not on other things? Do you have any interest in the matter?”
On his part, the state Chairman of PDP confirmed that they were invited by the EFCC, saying, “Yes, we were invited by EFCC over the campaign funds of 2015 general election.”
The spokesperson of EFCC in Kano Fatima Abubakar said she was not aware of the invitation. “I am not in office right now. I don’t have any detail,” she said.
