Sokoto marries off 12 female orphanage inmates

Twelve female inmates of the Sokoto Orphanage Home have been married off, Commissioner of Social Welfare and Culture, Alhaji Surajo Gatawa disclosed yesterday.
Gatawa said while speaking on the activities of the ministry that it was in line with the established tradition of marrying off grown up orphans who successfully met their suitors.
He said the state government had the responsibility to secure their lives, educate them and marry them off when they got suitors, and revealed that the brides were provided with all the necessary domestic items and furniture.
“Most of the inmates of the orphanage, including males and females, had been employed in the state’s civil service. They have various educational qualifications ranging from the National Certificate in Education to various degrees,” he stated.
