Two Females Bombers Kill 12 in Adamawa

Two female suicide bombers on Saturday reportedly killed 12 people in Dar village in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
An eyewitness, who confirmed the attack, said the bombs were detonated by two female suicide bombers in the wee hours of Saturday, adding that the ages of the bombers could not be determined.
However, another source said he saw a large number of gunmen invading the village, forcing residents to flee to a nearby bush.

According to him, two female suicide bombers disguised as fleeing villagers detonated the explosives in the bush where many people were hiding, killing 12 persons.

He added that many victims who sustained injuries were evacuated to the hospital by the police.
The spokesperson of the Adamawa Police Command, Othman Abubakar, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), confirmed the attack, saying 12 people were killed in the blasts that rocked the village.

He said the number of persons who lost their lives was given to him by policemen in charge of the area only yesterday evening.
Othman said the security agencies were already on top of the situation and called on the general public to divulge vital information about the insurgents who live among the people.

He said the fight against insurgency transcended that being carried out by the military and said all hands must be on deck to stop the terrorists.
His statement was preceded by yet another attempt by a female suicide bomber on a military barracks in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

During the incident, Nigerian soldiers shot dead the suspected suicide bomber outside a military base yesterday, detonating explosives concealed in her handbag, a civilian vigilante and a military source said.
The target was thought to be the Maimalari army barracks — the main military base in Maiduguri — which has been hit repeatedly in recent months by Boko Haram Islamists.

“Soldiers at Maimalari army barracks yesterday foiled a suicide attack by a female bomber,” said Babakura Kolo, from the civilian volunteer force, assisting troops against the rebels.
The woman approached the barracks around 7.00 am and headed towards the gates, he said. Military guards at the gates shouted at her to stop for security checks but she ignored them and continued walking towards the gates, he added.

“She continued walking with her handbag slung on her shoulder‎, despite repeated shouts from the soldiers asking her to stop.
“One of the soldiers opened fire on the woman and the handbag exploded, blowing the woman to pieces,” reported the AFP.
There were no other casualties in the explosion, which one military officer in the city described as an “attempted suicide attack by Boko Haram terrorists”.

Boko Haram has intensified its use of multiple suicide bombers to inflict maximum casualties, with secondary explosions detonated as people rush to help victims of the initial blast.
At least 34 people were killed in a wave of attacks on Thursday night and Friday morning on the outskirts of Maiduguri, while last month 117 died in explosions in the Ajilari Cross area of the Borno State capital.

Of the six suicide attacks in Nigeria this month, four have been in Maiduguri, killing at least 48 and injuring 99.
The military source, who requested anonymity as he was not authorised to talk to the media, said the use of human bombs was a sign of the group’s desperation and frustration at the fight-back by troops.

“They are looking for every opportunity to hit back, which is why they have resorted to soft-target attacks on mosques and markets and such attacks on a military base are intended to show the terrorists are still strong,” the officer added.
In another development, troops of the Special Task Force (STF) deployed to maintain peace in Plateau State said that they had continued in their mission to arrest members of Boko Haram and other criminals in various parts of the state.

The task force, in a statement yesterday, said while some high profile suspects had been relocated out of town for investigation, other suspects would be handed over as soon as further investigations are concluded for prosecution by the appropriate security agencies.
The statement, which was signed by its media officer, Captain Ikediche Iweha, advised the public to continue to maintain high vigilance, especially where there are large gatherings.

According to him, bus park operators and managers, market unions, mosques, churches, schools and relaxation spot operators had been enjoined to put in place security measures around their vicinity.
The task force had also succeeded in recovering rustled cattle in the state, the statement added.
