A
grain dealer Hamisu Mijinyawa of Tofa town in Tofa local government
area of Kano state has allegedly strangled his childhood friend Muzammil
Hamisu to death over N40, 000 dispute.
The corpse of Hamisu who was popularly known as Dan Asabe was found hidden in a pit covered with thorns.
Dan
Asabe, Daily Trust learned had in the month of June given his friend
Mijinyawa N40, 000 in exchange for locust beans seed for business.
After three months, Mijinyawa who bears the same first name as his friend could neither account for the loan nor the seed.
Describing
the incident, Dan Asabe’s mother, Mairo Hamisu said for the past three
months, her son kept asking his friend for the seed but to no avail.
“He
kept asking him and he would always promised to pay until that fateful
day when he asked him to come and collect the seed. That was the day he
disappeared,” she said.
She
added that after three days of her son’s disappearance, they decided to
call his friend to ask him if he knew something about him and he denied
knowing anything. Twice the friend was called by the deceased’s family
and on both occasions he denied knowing anything.
“Being
a grain dealer, he (Mijinyawa) asked one young boy to carry some grains
for him and when the boy finished the work he refused to pay him his
due and as the boy insisted, he warned him to stop disturbing him or
else he would deal with him as he had dealt with Dan Asabe. It was the
young boy that came to us to tell us what the man said and we informed
the police,” she disclosed.
After
interrogation, he confessed to killing and hiding the corpse of his
friend in a pit, “When he finally took the police to the place, the body
was decomposed such that it was parked with a shovel and taken for
burial.”
When
contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Musa Majia
confirmed the incident and said the suspect was in police custody and
had confessed to committing the crime. He said he would be charged to
court as soon as they finished their investigation
