Kaduna Fifth Chukker lifts Emir Cup, as 2015 Kano Polo fiesta ends

Kaduna Fifth Chukker at the weekend defeated Abuja Lintex 6-5 to win the Emir of Kano Cup, the biggest title at the just concluded Kano 2015 international polo tournament.

The event, which attracted over 20 teams, as well as foreign players from Argentina and South Africa, ended on a high note with Kano Agad also defeating hard-fighting Nakudu 41/2 to 4 to clinch the Dangote Cup. The host, Kano Polo Club, won the tournament, carting home three out of the four major titles at stake.
One of the highlights of the closing ceremony was the presentation of a N15 million cheque to Kano Polo Club by ICT company, MTN Nigeria, in demonstration of its commitment to the development of the game in Nigeria.
The presentation at the Usman Dantata Polo Ground was a significant part of the event that was decided over 10 days of top class polo games.
While presenting the cheque, MTN’s Trade Marketing Consultant, Kano Central, Mohammed Raji, said, “MTN believes in supporting people to achieve great things that not only better their lives, but the society as a whole. For MTN, supporting polo is a demonstration of our commitment to the development of the game in Nigeria.”
Kano State Deputy Governor, Professor Afiso Abubakar, who witnessed the presentation, thanked MTN for its enduring commitment to polo that has remained the biggest sporting cum tourism attraction to the state for about a century.
Professor Abubakar who represented the State Governor, Alhaji Abdulahi Ganduje, as the Special Guest of Honour, declared that the partnership with MTN in the northern part of Nigeria has yielded good fruits by providing tourist attraction for people and putting the region on world map for the right reasons.
