Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State has
ordered the renaming of state structures that were hitherto named after
the former governor, Ibrahim Shema.
Over seven structures were named by the previous government after the former governor.
Masari, while inaugurating a committee on street numbering, house and
property naming, ordered that the former governor’s name be removed and
replaced with names of “deserving individuals” either living or dead.
He said a law is to be enacted barring governors from naming public structures after themselves.
Two other committees were also inaugurated. One of the committees is on
biometric verification of primary schools teachers and local government
staff while the other is to investigate the performance of the state
Basic Apprentice Training Centre (BATC).
