Some members of
the Jigawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have
expressed doubt over the sincerity of Governor Muhammad Badaru
Abubakar’s preparedness to conduct free and fair local government
election in the state.
The Jigawa State Independent Electorate
Commission (JSIEC) had fixed July 1, 2017 for the conduct of local
government poll in the state.
However, the APC stakeholders, under the
auspices of Jigawa State Concerned APC Stakeholders said the various
steps taken by the government on the election only created an atmosphere
of tension and mistrust and also posed a threat to party unity as well
as law and order.
Addressing a press conference in Kano
yesterday, the chairman of the group, Alhaji Nasiru Garba Dantiye,
alleged that governor Badaru was trying to impose candidates against the
wish of the electorate.
Dantiye said although the governor had
severally denied his relationship with PDP politicians over his party
men, the induced defection of the PDP members into the APC and the
patronage they had been enjoying did not only confirm the fears of the
APC members, but also created tension in the state.
