The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna
is not happy with the ongoing demolition exercise embarked upon by the
governor of the state, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai.
In a communique signed by Muhammed Rabiu Bako, the chairman of PDP
Stakeholders Forum, the party said the All Progressives Congress-led
government was bent on returning the state to the dark days of
dictatorship with its inhumane policies, Daily Trust reports.
“We have been watching with eagle eye and keen interest the
activities of the current APC government in Kaduna State and we have
finally confirmed what we have always suspected of the APC since
inception. The party is only in power to make the good people of Kaduna
suffer,” the PDP said.
They also accused Governor el-Rufai of only inspecting buildings he
wants to destroy, saying he had never been seen inspecting ongoing or
completed projects.
According to the PDP, the APC in Kaduna has no positive agenda to make the people’s lives better.
The party also condemned the non-payment of civil servants in the
state, saying the action was aimed at inflicting pains on the masses.
Within three months of his inauguration as governor, el-Rufai
implemented the demolition of some buildings in the state, contrary to
the promises he made during the election campaign not to demolish
buildings in Kaduna and its metropolis but rather to build more
infrastructure.
The governor, however, promised that some of the building owners will be compensated, but only those who have all the appropriate paperwork; a genuine certificate of occupancy and approved building plans.
