Kenya authorities pledged to support the development of the horticultural sector in jigawa state



Stakeholders in the horticultural sector in Kenya have pledged to support the Jigawa State Government in its bid to develop the horticultural sector in the State.
This was revealed during strategic meetings between the State Government and key players in the horticultural sector in Kenya.
The Jigawa State delegation led by His Excellency, Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, Mon, mni, met with the management of the Kenyan Horticultural Crops Development Authority(HCD), Kenyan Plant Health Inspectorate Services (KEPHIS), syngenta foundation as well as the Kenyan Flower Council in their respective offices to open up deliberations on possible collaboration between the State and the Kenyan Government.
Discussions bordered on access to quality seed, international market access, regulatory frameworks, compliance as well as technology and expertise transfer.
It should be noted that Kenya is a leading exporter of flowers and vegetables to Europe generating 1.01 billion dollars in foreign exchange annually .
The sector provides jobs for about 6.5 million people in Kenya and has the capacity of creating thousands of jobs in Jigawa State.
His Excellency is expected to meet with investors and farmers in the Naivasha county today.
The visit is facilitated by the African Rural and Agricultural Credit Association (AFRACA).
