Gombe Govt. Releases N5m For Animals Vaccination Against Zoonotic Diseases

Gombe State Government says it has released N5million for the purchase of vaccines for animal vaccination against Zoonotic diseases due to its  harmful effect on humans.
Mr Sammy Barka, the Commissioner for Animal Husbandry and Nomadic Affairs disclosed this on Tuesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gombe.
Zoonotic is an infectious disease that can be transferred from animals to humans or from humans to animals. Zoonotic diseases are caused by viruses, bacteria, parasites and fungi.
Barka appealed to livestock farmers and residents with animals to avail themselves of the ongoing vaccination by the state government.

The commissioner said that the vaccination, which started last  Thursday, could be obtained at any of the 114 wards across the 11 local government areas of the State.
“I am calling on animal farmers in general to avail their animals of this vaccination for both animals and we the humans to stay healthy.
“People need to take this advantage to avail their animals of the vaccination because it is free of charge,’’ he said.
He said that the vaccine for cattle is Contagious Bovine Pleuropneurmonia (CBPP) while that of goat and sheep is  Pest de Pestis Ruminatum (PPR).
“The government on its part vaccinates the animals against such diseases particularly the CBPP and the PPR for the small ruminants to prevent tuberculosis in cattle yearly,’’ he said.
