The Governor hoped that the MoU and the support of the elder statesman in the state, desired objectives will be achieved.
In his remarks, Professor Kamal Mohammed Ubaid, the Vice Chancellor of the International University of Africa in Sudan, said he was in the State to actualize the signing of the MoU between the University of Maiduguri and his institution, and commended Dr. Mohammed Indimi for facilitating the programme, adding that a committee has been put in place for implementation.
He maintained that because Dr. Mohammed Indimi’s passion for education by building the Faculty of Mineral and Petroleum in the University, it has earned him an appointment as a board member of the institution.
The Professor used the forum to commend Governor Kashim Shettima for giving the desired attention to the education sector, most especially Girl Child Education.
Dr. Indimi commended efforts of the government towards education, and invited Governor Shettima to attend the commissioning of the complex built by him in the International University of Africa in January 2018.
“I chose to be in this delegation because of the important things. Professor Kamal, leading this very delegation, and Professor Njodi leading the University of Maiduguri team, the International University of Africa is owned by International Organizations, based in Sudan, Sudan Government approved.
I am chosed to represent Africa on the board of trustees. And I know how important it is, that is why I accepted to be with them for over five years now.
And Alhamdulillah, now I facilitate to see the University of Maiduguri working together to sign the MoU.
And why I accepted it again, is because of the history. Sudan is a place where we have more Nigerians outside Nigeria in the whole world. We are talking of over 5m Nigerians right now living in Sudan. And African International University alone has more than 1000 Nigerians there.
I myself personally, every year I give scholarships of 10 Borno State indigines there. And now, it looks like I have to do more. This year alone, I sent 27 indegenes of Borno to the University.
So, for them to be here is very important to me being a Borno man, and I chose to accompany them. Although they are the ones who are going to tell you why we are here, for me, why we are here is because you are our leader, and you pay attention to education. Even yesterday with them, we were watching the NTA, and we saw how you were paying more attention to the schools.
Education for me is very important to me, although I never had the opportunity to go to any school in my life. I even tried to get who can teach me ‘ABCD’ in my life but couldn’t.
So, I had to learn by listening, how to read and write, by seeing the people that do, and I am happy now by participating in education over the world.
Right now, there is something Big coming for me to donate to the University of Maiduguri. Very soon, we will invite the Governor insha Allah to come for the laying foundation of Indimi Distance Learning Centre in the University of Maiduguri”. Dr. Indimi said.
Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi first commiserated with Governor Shettima over the loss of the owner of Ngab Oil and business mogul,
Alhaji Mohammad Ngabura Bukar.
Professor Njodi said Professor Kamal Mohammed’s visit to the State was a follow up of the earlier arrangement for the signing of the MoU between the two institutions, and thanked Alh. Mohammed Indimi for the University’s effort in facilitating the process.
“We would like to first and foremost commiserate with His Excellency the Governor of Borno State, and the good people of Borno State over the death of one of Borno’s elders and businessman, Alhaji Ngabura Bukar, whose funeral rites took place this morning.
May his gentle soul rest In peace. May God forgive him for his short comings, and grant him Jannatul Firdaus.
“We wish to express our profound appreciation to his excellency for kindly accepting to recieve me and the members of the delegation.
This as usual clearly demonstrates your humility, openness and respect you have for us, especially for one of our most treasured elder, and accomplished businessman, Alh. (Dr.) Mohammed Indimi OFR, who graciously accompanied the delegation.
We are indeed very grateful to you for this honour.
“As I earlier intimated you in my communication, seeking to pay you a courtesy visit, Prof. Kamal Mohammed Ubaid, the Vice Chancellor of the International University of Africa, led a high level delegation on a 2 day official visit to the University of Maiduguri.
The visit is a follow up to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the International University of Africa, and the University of Maiduguri on Tuesday, 8th August 2017 in Khartoum.
“As part of activities during the visit to Maiduguri, Professor Ubaid and his delegation decided to take the opportunity to visit you, to display courtesy and respect to you as the Executive Governor of Borno State, so also as an educationist, and an alumnus of the University of Maiduguri” he said.
