Three persons including a police officer were reportedly killed
over the weekend by suspected kidnappers, along the Ajaokuta-Lokoja
highway, in Kogi State.
Several
others were said to have sustained various degree of injury during the
incident.
Unconfirmed
sources said that an expertriate, staff and the policeman were killed by
unidentified gunmen, while another uniformed officer was seriously wounded
after a shoot out gun in the Ajaokuta local government area.
It
was learnt that that the expatriate who was travelling with one of his staff
ran into the suspected kidnappers, but got stiff resistance from the police
orderly, lead to a shootout between them and the police.
The hoodlums were said to have shot the expatriate, his driver
and policeman, killing them instantly.
It
was gathered that in an attempt to escape the scene, the suspected kidnappers
engaged another set of policemen in a shootout.
The
Kogi State Police Public Relation of officer, Mr. William Aya who confirmed the
incident, said the command has commenced investigation into the matter.
He
said that report reaching the command has it that a an expertrate, his driver
and a police officer were shot dead by yet-to-be identified gunmen, Saturday
morning, along the Ajaokuta-Lokoja road.
